Faelan has many long distance students and believes in maintaining connection and accessibility as we grow a world-wide community of dancers. Because of this, she has been offering live stream and recorded classes since January 2017. Live streaming is easy, fun and completely interactive. You will get attention and feedback during class. She has taught several choreography intensives online, shown up with a single rehearsal and performed dances with gals from all over. Whether you just want to dance in your living room once a week, or train extensively and perform, the possibilities are endless!

What people are saying about live stream classes:
“Being able to still dance with you live stream since moving has meant so much to me! If anything it’s better than normal class, I rarely get feedback like you give me on live stream. That is invaluable to my progression to better my skills.” Michelle Hays – Seattle, WA
“I am thankful for modern technology that allows me to take a live class with amazing belly dance teachers that are several hours away! Thank you so much, Faelan Shiva! That was AWESOME.” Roxy Roxstar – Bakersfield, CA
“Wow that was fun! I just took my first streaming live dance class with Faelan Shiva, all the way from the Santa Cruz mountains. A true highlight was dancing Improvisational Tribal Style (ITS Unmata style) with the group–I even got to lead the stagger! A 300 mile distance can’t stop the Magic of ITS! She’ll be live streaming many more classes, and it was an amazing learning experience complete with feedback. Thanks Faelan ! ” Robyn Vandiver- Weed, CA
Live Stream FAQ
WHAT DO I NEED TO LIVE STREAM A CLASS?
All you need is a computer, Ipad or smart phone and a good internet connection. It is helpful if you have enough room to back a few feet away from your computer so I can see more of your torso. A well lit room and a contrasting color belt on your hips is also helpful, so I can better see your lines and movement. You may like to have a mirror nearby so you can you view your own movements.
HOW DO I REGISTER?
Fancy registration buttons will be available on this site soon, but for now registration is accepted via PayPal at Faelanshiva@gmail.com.
LIVE STREAM SPECIAL EVENTS -To register for a live stream only class or series, send your payment to Faelan within an hour of the beginning of class. Please mark your payments clearly with what date and class you are registering for, and include the email I should send your class link to.
I’VE SENT MY PAYMENT, HOW DO I GET INTO THE CLASSROOM?
Here are the class links for 2020:
Sunday live stream class link:
https://zoom.us/j/999163388
Meeting ID 999 163 388
Wednesday live stream class link:
https://zoom.us/j/225793132
Meeting ID 225 793 132
If it is your first time using Zoom, you will be prompted to install a thing before you can enter. It only takes a moment and is very easy.
I’M IN, NOW WHAT?
Welcome to my virtual studio! You will be prompted to allow Zoom access to your camera. You need to allow access for me to be able to see you. If you are not prompted, go into your “settings” and to “video” and allow camera access.
Please mute yourself, otherwise, every time a sound happens in your room, you will be featured on the screen.
Please check the “chat box” for any messages I may have left you while I am preparing for class.
When I teach more than one class back to back, I open one studio session. You may log on a few minutes early to a 7pm class and find yourself watching the 6:30pm Datura Style class. No problem. I’m happy for you to arrive early to get yourself situated. I teach a lot of back to back classes and it would be super disruptive if I had to resend a new link for every class. But I will come say hi to you before your class begins.
IS IT INTERACTIVE?
Absolutely! If you are logged on and have allowed your device’s camera access, then I can see you and you can see me. I will talk to you, come by and take a good look at your movement, and give you feedback.
WHAT SHOULD I WEAR?
Please wear comfortable clothes you can move in freely. Belts and/or hip scarves in contrasting colors from your pants/skirt will help me greatly to be able to see your movement. For instance, if you wear black pants, a nice shiny belt or colorful hip scarf will be great. It is also very helpful if your belly is exposed so I can see more movement, but is not required. Form fitting clothes make this experience the most efficient. Please make sure you are in a well lit room, and I can see you better if the light is shining on you from the front, rather than the back. I love to give feedback to all of my students, so the more I can see your movement, the more you will get from me.
WHEN WILL I GET MY RECORDING?
I do not record the regular studio classes, but do sometimes offer special series’ with recordings, especially for performance intensives. If you have bought a bundle package that includes the recording, or you have purchased the recorded class only package, you will generally receive your recording within 3 days of the live class and I will always strive for sooner than that. Recordings are usually only an extra $5 and can be very helpful to your home practice. Recorded classes can be purchased any time.
I NEED TECH SUPPORT, HOW DO I REACH YOU?
The fastest way to get a hold of me for tech support during class is on Facebook Messenger. Be sure we are “friends” on FB, so your message will show right on my screen. During class, use the chat feature on the bottom of your screen.
HOW CAN I ASK QUESTIONS DURING CLASS?
You can ask questions during class by using the chat box available at the bottom of your screen. I will also ask for questions every 10-15 minutes. If it’s urgent, you can wave me down. I LOVE questions, they help me serve you better.
A NOTE ABOUT ONLINE CLASSES:
It can be useful to have a mirror near by while you watch the recordings so you can check your own isolations and movement in the mirror for technique and posture.
